There have been a lot of rumors swirling around the interwebs about the next entry in the legendary Elder Scrolls franchise being an Xbox exclusive. I’m here to tell you that these rumors are most likely completely false. Now, before you hop on your Console War rant, let me explain.
The idea of making one of the biggest RPG franchises of all time a console exclusive is just pure lunacy. Think about it, even with Xbox as an overlord to Bethesda execs, there’s no way they would’ve signed on to this buy out knowing it would limit their audience. It would simply be a stupid business move above everything else. Bethesda has always been really good to their fans over the years, why on earth would they slap their audience in the face? They won’t.
Beyond fan service, it’s a money game. A lot of gamers tend to forget that the video game industry is still business. In fact, it generates more revenue than the film and music industries combined. That being said, developers need to make a profit for the multiple years spent on these games. With a game like Elder Scrolls, making it bigger and better everytime takes a HUGE team, and a lot of labor hours. Do you seriously think they’ll risk cutting off half of their sales on PlayStation just to slap a Xbox exclusive sticker on the box? Absolutely not.
Another good indication is with Id Software, now owned by Microsoft with the Bethesda buy out. They just recently remastered Quake for PS4, which means they still have free reign to release what ever they want on any console they choose. However, in the case of Starfield, it was most likely already planned as an Xbox exclusive early on because buy out talks take a LONG time. Microsoft probably asked to have a big name IP added to their exclusives to highlight the two companies coming together. Obviously Elder Scrolls and Fallout is out of the question, because they are just too popular on other consoles. A new IP though was perfect for this.
So, I’m here to reassure my fellow PlayStation gamers that Elder Scrolls 6 will grace our screens. The game is a long ways off, so that gives everyone plenty of time to secure a PS5 before it drops! When it does drop, nobody contact me because I’ll be huddled up in my game room for a week straight…
