Welcome, Militia! Today we have a special character in the Bad Rap hot seat! Yep, today we’re going to discuss the complex gray wolf with a big heart – Legoshi from BEASTARS.

BEASTARS is a story that follows life in an integrated boarding school for carnivores and herbivores. There are animals of nearly all kinds – alpacas, bears, rabbits – all expected to live harmoniously within this establishment, despite their differences and cultural fears. The series actually opens showing the murder of a herbivore student by an unknown carnivore from his own class. This series certainly doesn’t shy away from tough topics. The center of our tale is a gray wolf named Legoshi. Quiet, a bit of a loner, pessimistic, this guy finds himself in a very awkward situation when he loses control of his carnivorous side and nearly devours a small white rabbit. And that’s when things become even more complex for our wolf pal.

As Legoshi struggles with his guilt, he soon discovers after getting to know Haru that he had actually fallen in love with her. Apparently this is pretty taboo in this world, as it is mentioned more than several times that a wolf and a tiny dwarf rabbit is unheard of. Regardless, Legoshi makes it a mission of his to make sure that Haru is safe from harm, even putting himself at great risk.

I won’t delve too far into specifics because BEASTARS is still a very new anime (season 2 just dropped on Netflix in 2021) so I’ll keep spoilers at a minimum. I believe that Legoshi actually doesn’t deserve a bad rap. He goes above and beyond to reclaim his identity and surpass his carnivorous instincts to make sure that those he loves and cares for are safe. He struggled and did some pretty heroic things to save Haru from danger. And I actually really like how the roles are almost reversed when it comes to Legoshi’s innocence and Haru’s… experience. 😉
Well, what do y’all think? Did Legoshi deserve his Bad Rap? Let us know in the comments below! ✌👾
