Welcome back, Militia, to an exciting addition to The Bad Rap! I was pleasantly surprised by how much you guys have enjoyed Sniper Mask’s Bad Rap that this week I thought that it might be fun to cover our favorite murderous blonde. So, without further ado, let’s discuss High-Rise Invasion’s Mayuko Nise!
Mayuko hits the scene as, well… a violent psychopath willing to do whatever it takes to leave the skyscraper world and get home. She shows no immediate regard for anyone but herself and her goal. That is, until she found herself on the other side of grave danger, but was rescued by our protagonist, Yuri Honjo.
Mayuko has great ability when it comes to holding her own with a knife, and after her rescue she makes a vow to give up going home alone to stay and fight by Yuri’s side. She grows as a character and little by little we learn more about her background and how she came to become so ruthless. Without spoiling too terribly much (after all, High-Rise Invasion is still relatively new! If you haven’t seen it, check it out on Netflix! It’s got lots of action… and nasty fan service. I mean, if that’s what you’re into, I guess) our girl transforms from a two-dimensional one-track mind side character into a fun personality with a violent edge.
Does Mayuko deserve her bad rap? You know, given her situation and knowing her background, I lean more to the side of no. Yeah, she has killed innocent people. She has given no remorse to those actions. But can she really be blamed? This is a sixteen-year-old girl from an abusive home thrust into a world where you either kill or be killed. She did what she had to do to make it this far. And when she met Yuri and made her turn-around, she truly dedicated herself and risked it all to make sure Yuri was safe. I call that a pretty sturdy redemption.
Tell us what you think! What are your thoughts on Mayuko? Let us know in the comments below, we always love hearing from you! ✌
