Well, I’ve really been slacking lately. Something about January and February always put me in a funk and make it really hard for me to be productive. Between working 10 hour days and taking care of my baby girl, I find it hard to find time to sit and write and indulge into my nerdy interests. So, because I think we could all use an extra boost of sunshine, this week I give you my top 5 picks of games that are guaranteed to boost your serotonin levels.
1. Stardew Valley
Ah, Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley has definitely become one of my biggest comfort games. After creating your own character, you get to work on your little farm that you have inherited from your grandfather. What I really appreciate about Stardew Valley is how many times you can replay it. You have the option of pursuing romantic interests, exploring the depths of an abandoned mine, working on your fishing skills, finding rare objects to turn into the library, or turning your land into an abandoned weedy rocky mess to a flourishing thriving farmstead.
2. Sims 4
While we all know that Sims 2 is the supreme Sims experience, the Sims 4 really has a lot to offer. My favorite thing about the Sims 4 is the character customization. You really can create your sims to look however you want. I recently saw a video where someone made all of the Disney princesses and made them live in a house together and honestly it just really made me want to re-download the game to try it out, except maybe with the villains instead. If you are stuck in a mundane 9 to 5, playing the Sims can help you live out your dreams virtually.
If you’re anything like me, then at least once a year you have to start a new world on Minecraft. From mining for diamonds to creating multiple towns, it is easy to forget your troubles and get lost in the world of Minecraft. Minecraft is also nice if you are looking for a stress free game due to their game modifications. You can choose to just play in creative mode and not worry about those Creepers coming up behind you and ruining everything you just created.
4. Animal Crossing
If you have a Switch, then you also probably have Animal Crossing. If not, it’s definitely worth trying out. Personally, I did not grow up playing Animal Crossing so the nostalgic feels were kind of lost on me, but all in all it is a very cute and relaxing game. While the multiplayer is kind of lacking, the solo play is really fun. One of my favorite parts of this game is just getting to design your little home. You find different things playing the game that allow you to modify what your home looks like. Also, can we talk about the soundtrack? *chefs kiss* Greatness.
5. Untitled Goose Game
I decided to include a game on here that I haven’t played yet, but I have heard nothing but fun things about Untitled Goose Game. I mean, you literally are playing as a goose, basically getting to do whatever you want to. The feeling of playing as a goose and not having to worry about paying your bills or any adult responsibilities just really sounds like a good time.
