As many parts of the United States brace themselves for another lockdown due to COVID-19, many of us will find ourselves trying to find a new show to watch. There’s nothing better than getting sucked into a new-to-you series. From getting attached to characters, to immersing yourself in a new world, the thing that hooks you the most is the plot.
However, nothing is worse than diving head first into a new show, only for you to find out that it was cancelled too early. A show getting cancelled could mean a lot of things for how the show ended. Some shows have notice and can try and tie up as many loose ends as they can. Others are not so lucky and leave the viewer wondering ultimately what happened to the characters that you were just starting to really care about. This week I give you my top shows that were cancelled too early.
Colony, originally premiering on USA in 2016, follows a family in a dystopian future that is led by a mysterious military occupation. This show had me hooked from the start. You find yourself really getting invested in this family and hoping that they survive the stressful and dangerous situations they are put in. But alas, in 2018 USA announced that they were cancelling the show after 3 seasons. Be warned that if you decide to binge this show, you will be left unsatisfied as the show ends on a cliffhanger.
If you follow my posts, you know I am a lover of all things spooky. While The Mist may not have gotten the love that it deserved, I really enjoyed the first and sadly only season of this show. The Mist premiered on Spike in 2017. Set in Maine, like most Stephen King tales, The Mist is about a mist that envelopes a small town. While mist itself is not that scary, what happens to people when they are in the mist is where the story gets interesting. There are ten brilliant episodes to this show that also sadly end on a cliffhanger. This is one that I wish Netflix or Amazon would pick up.
And because any list about shows that were cancelled too early without including Firefly are incomplete, I give you, Firefly. Originally released in 2002 on Fox, Firefly follows the crew of the Serenity as they travel through a new star system. The show was cancelled after episode 11 of 14 aired. Ouch. But, the show has such a strong following that in 2005, a spin-off movie, Serenity, was released.
Those are my top 3 shows that I wish had a little more life given to them, or at least some closure! Did you watch any of these? Are there any other cliffhangers that drive you crazy? Let us know in the comments.
