Zombies, Parkour, and More

It’s finally September which means that it is finally spooky season! I may or may not love Halloween more than Christmas. There is just something about the change of weather, the cool crisp breeze in the air, the changing of the leaves, rainy cold days when you can go home and enjoy a hot cup of tea, and you know, zombies.

I love zombies. There’s such a wide variety of interpretation when it comes to them. Some zombies can run, some can just stumble around. Some are intelligent, some are mindless. I think that’s why there are so many great zombie video games out there. From Call of Duty zombies to World War Z, I love them all. But, there is one game that is by far the best…Dying Light.

Dying Light first released in 2015 for multiple platforms. It is a survivor horror game set in the open world of Harran. Harran has had an unfortunate outbreak that has turned the majority of its population into zombies. You play the character of Kyle Crain, working for the Global Relief Effort, and your mission is to find Kadir “Rais” Suleiman, a political figure gone rogue.

However, Kyle soon meets a group of survivors. After forming friendships with these survivors, Kyle has to decide if he will continue to follow the GRE orders or if he will help the survivors.

While the story of the game is great, the gameplay is even better. One of the most fun parts of this game is how you get your character around. Parkour! You get to leap off buildings, zipline around town, and jump from roof to roof. Combat is also very fun in this game. I love some good melee combat and nothing feels more satisfying than crafting your own weapon to beat the crap out of some zombies.

Dying Light: The Following is a DLC that came out in 2016. While the story is a little shorter than the original game, it does a great job of showing you what comes next for Kyle Crain. I would definitely recommend it. Dying Light 2 was announced in 2018 and I am still patiently awaiting it’s release, which we still don’t have a release date for, but I’m sure will be a beautiful game to play on the PS5.

What’s your favorite zombie game? Have you played Dying Light? Let us know in the comments! Happy spooky season everyone!
