What’s Your Hogwarts House?

Growing up, I was downright obsessed with the wizarding world penned by J. K. Rowling. I was ecstatic when I got my hardback copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for Christmas of 2001, along with a ton of HP stationary stickers from Hallmark that I proceeded to press between the pages of my journal and on the top right corner of my school work pages. Nearly every game of pretend, my brother and I would imagine that we were students at Hogwarts, often donning bedsheets as wizard cloaks and random sticks from the backyard as our wands.

The amazing thing about Harry Potter is that our wonder of the series was typical with other people from all over the world. You could be darn sure that there wasn’t just a couple of kids in Hattiesburg, Mississippi pretending twigs were powerful magic wands – this was a piece of childhood shared with so many others the globe over. And while there are things a person of my generation might not know (like your accurate credit score, how much you have currently contributed to your IRA, your blood type…) we all know good and well what Hogwarts House we belong to.

Slytherin, proud and true! 💚🐍💚

Like many others over the years, I grew up believing I belonged to a different house than the one that I was ultimately placed in. As a kid, I truly connected with Ravenclaw. After all, I was a notorious bookworm and was highly creative as a tyke. Same goes for my brother; we couldn’t figure out if he was a Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. So imagine our surprise when we finally took the official sorting quiz and discovered we both belonged to Slytherin. And you know what? Nearly all of the attributes associated with the house fit our personalities. Ambitious, cunning, decisive to the point where we rarely make a decision without thinking through each and every alternative outcome – yep, definitely Slytherin.

By honestly answering a few questions, nearly any person can be categorized into one of the four Hogwarts Houses based on their personality with close accuracy. And sure, the knowledge of knowing your Hogwarts House can just boil down to silly fun, but it also might just allow you to understand your friends and family just a bit better.

Have you never taken the official quiz to see which House you sort into? Well, look no further! Just follow the simple instructions and you are well on your way to learning something new about yourself by clicking on this link to Pottermore.
